Sharing is caring!

It happens to all of us. Whether you are great at hosting and absolutely love it or if it is sprung on you last minute. My personal life consists of hosting. It has for the past 8 years and I would not have it any other way.

Moving every 4 years we make a lot of friends and they love to visit! Therefore, it is rare we have a weekend just the two of us. We have had the opportunity to live in Neptune Beach, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and San Francisco, California. All hot spots or should I say tourist destinations!

So, I have compiled my top tips and tricks to be THE hostess with the mostess!
Top 5 Tips for Hosting

Rule Number 1:

  • Always turn your house around as soon as someone leaves!
  • No one wants to live in a dirty house, anyways.
  • Plus, your guest room will be ready for the next unexpected guest to come and crash.
Guest Room Always Ready

Rule Number 2:

  • Make loose plans. I rarely commit the group to anything. I do commit everyone to an epic dinner at AsiaSF (the best drag show in San Francisco). They do late reservations, so I always do dinner around 9 or 10. This gives everyone a chance to get ready and still make it in time.
  • If the group has a set destination in mind. Book it! As long as you know your guests, it shouldn’t be a hassle.

Rule Number 3:

Midnight Snacks Your Guests Will Love
  • Don’t waste time buying a ton of food. Likely you will eat out, especially if you are planning to explore all day. It is just easier to grab a bite on the go. Plus, you don’t waste food and money.
  • Although, do buy snacks & drinks for the house! My friends all love a midnight/drunken snack. I typically get things like cheese, crackers, pre-made dips (hummus, 7-layer dip, and salsa), chips (not big my fav. but everyone else loves them), veggies to dip in hummus and almonds. YUM!

Rule Number 4:

  • Be ready and excited! We have all had company show up at our doorstep literally wish we could just lay in bed all weekend instead of entertain. Guess what they aren’t going anywhere, so put on your happy face and get ready to have fun! It is all about your state of mind!
  • Even if I wasn’t ready or exhausted. I have never looked back on a weekend and wished it didn’t happen. Maybe the key is to have fun friends!

Rule Number 5:

  • Have a few go-to spots in mind! This might sound contradictory but, knowing the best food spots, sights to see and views in your area are key. Your company probably has not been to the area, so you’ll need to guide the way.
  • My biggest tip is pick places you want to go to as well. I always throw in a few spots I have been dying to get to. This way I don’t get bored with the tour! Selfish? No smart!
